Athens Photo World Award
Submissions start on Monday April 15

Athens Photo World 2019, with the exclusive donation by Stavros Niarchos Foundation, organises an annual Photojournalism Award for professional photographers living and working in Greece and Cyprus.
At its inaugural event in June 2019, Athens Photo World will award a 5,000 € cash prize to an ongoing or complete project of reportage or documentary photography, created between January 2018 and April 2019.
The awarded photographic project will be exhibited at the next Athens Photo World (2020) exhibition at an individual exhibition of the photographer.
Those wishing to participate should send a portfolio of twelve (12) photos and the supporting text/story (200-250 words) to ‘Submit your work’ form until the 20th of May 2019 at noon.
Jury members will receive the submitted works, without any info regarding the entrants’ idendity, directly from the webhosting company. All metadata will have been removed from the digital files. The jury will meet and decide on the 25th and the 26th of May 2019.
A new judging committee will be appointed every year. For 2019 the committee consists of:
President: Aristotelis Sarrikostas, the first Greek photojournalist of the Associated Press agency from 1964 to 1996
Nikandre Koukoulioti, advertising and corporate special project manager, Magnum Photos Paris
Penelope Petsini, Historian of Photography, Professor at the Department of Political Science and History of Panteion University
Eirini Vourloumis, Photographer, contributor at the New York Times
Thanassis Stavrakis, Photographer, Head of the Photographic Department of the Associated Press Agency for Greece, Cyprus, Albania and North Macedonia
The winner will be announced and the prize will be awarded on Sunday 16th of June 2019, by the Deputy Director of Programs and Strategic Initiatives of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation, Panos Papoulias and the Athens Photo World Artistic Director, Thanassis Stavrakis at a special event at SNFCC.
